• COVID-19 Information for the 2022-2023 School Year (Updated 10/06/2022)
The district will be following the protocols established by the NYSDOH- COVID  as well as the Allegany County Department of Health- COVID, information changes rapidly and we will update the information as it's received.

    Testing

If your child is experiencing symptoms of COVID, they will need one of the following to return to school: Negative PCR, Negative NAAT, or Negative Home Rapid Test.

    • The district provides Nucleic Acid Amplification Testing (NAAT) on-site using the Abbott ID Now machine.  Results are available within 15 minutes.  To schedule an appointment, please call 607.276.6536 or email kormsby@aacsapps.com .  Parental consents are available on Operoo and will need to be completed before the test is administered.

    • At-home COVID-19 test kits will be provided free of charge to AACS district families, as needed and as determined by the administration, while supplies are available.

    • If your child has tested positive for COVID-19, you must notify the School Nurse.

    Masking

Effective March 2, 2022, universal masking will no longer be required for students, staff members, or visitors to AACS.  There will be, however, several instances in which an individual would be required to – or strongly recommended to – mask. Please see below for complete guidelines, which apply to all individuals, vaccinated or unvaccinated.

    • Masking is still required when:
      • They are returning to school for days 6-10 post-COVID-19 infection. This includes sports and extracurricular activities. If a COVID-19-infected person cannot mask, they must be excluded from school or work for 10 days.
    • Masking is still strongly recommended but NOT mandatory when:
      • When they are exposed to a Positive Case of COVID-19.

Regardless of your stance on masking, please remember that many people still have valid reasons to mask.  We ask you to remind your children that it is each person’s personal choice to wear a mask and to stress the importance of respecting others' choices.

To ensure the health and safety of our students, staff, and the community, we will continue to implement mitigation strategies to help decrease the spread of COVID-19, including improved air filtration, frequent hand-washing, daily cleaning protocols, and more.

As always, if your child is sick or demonstrating COVID-19 symptoms, they should be kept home from school and tested for COVID-19.

The CDC recommends that eligible individuals get a COVID-19 vaccine to help protect against COVID-19. We encourage our families to be vaccinated. You may be asked for insurance information when signing up for an appointment, but the vaccine is free and there will never be a charge to you. You do not need to have insurance to get the vaccine.  Allegany County and Steuben County both offer vaccine clinics. You can also schedule appointments at most of your local pharmacies.

Thank you for your support and cooperation as we continue to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic.
